For the first time, I've been playing a lot of solo guitar gigs - almost every Friday at Serendipity Wines and Liquors on the Upper East Side. It's been a challenge to fill 2 hours of music, but it's also been a great opportunity to hone some of the pieces I've collected over the years by George Van Eps, Tim Sparks, Bill Frisell, and the jazz standard canon. As a bonus, I've been collecting wine at a much faster rate than I can drink it.
I continue to play with David Aaron's Short Memory frequently - next performance at Somethin' Jazz on March 17.
Bigger Thomas has a rare Manhattan show on March 2nd at Cin-M-Art (I'll be warmed up from a Serendipty performance earlier in the evening).
I've had a number of gigs recently as part of a new collaboration with Kolom-Bour - I never quite know if we'll be playing jazz-standards, Russian blues songs, classic rock singalongs, or something free form, but I'll find out tonight at Downhouse Lounge in Coney Island.
The New York Mandolin Orchestra is still going strong - lots of Scott Joplin this year!
And maybe I'll cook up a few different projects and update my website from time to time ...
